Tips for Drawing Faces by emmilinne Tips for Drawing Faces by emmilinne
This is basically the same face guide that any artist has ever made. I really don’t have anything other than the usual. My faces are probably the most inconsistent thing that I draw, so basically do as I say not as I do :) The most important thing is to use guides like this as a baseline, not a Bible.

Wow, this is very helpful, I'm new to this and can never get the face right. I often just sketch the face so I wouldn't bother with it, but lately I'm drawn to actually try and give my characters some, well... character:)

You gave some really nice tips here, but I noticed that ears can also start lower than your eyebrows and end at the jawline... I guess it depends on the person. But, this is still helpful! :D

I have been struggling with the basic shaping of the face lately. Before this phase, I was able to draw the basic 3/4th, side and front with a lot of time involved, but then I got into this phase where I have immense problems drawing any angled shots because, I think, I understand the anatomy of the face too well, without having a good workflow, to make a good render.

Then I saw this tutorial by sheer accident. So simple and so effective.

I just drew 10 super quick random angle sketches, using the workflow from this tutorial.

Thank you.

I have a lot of trouble with thinking too hard about the face instead of just going for it! I'm glad this was helpful to you :)

You just helped me a lot there. I tend to draw the final face form, neck and shoulders and then just fill it in, but it's probably better not to do it that way. I'm going to go try it the other way now. :p

Ah, yes I used to do that! It really does make the face hard to fill I because you have to squeeze everything in. I'm glad this helps!
